We have just de-stocked our property as we are running very low on feed. We have put as many sheep and goats into the freezer that we could. And we’ve sold our commercial cattle herd. Only my milking herd remains. We still have grass and yes it should rain soon, but even if it rained today it would be too late for proper land management. Over grazing land causes erosion and it actually makes the land regeneration worse – taking longer for grass to come back when it does rain. Now we’ll be in a good position to buy back in before prices go up as we’ll have grass. This is good animal husbandry, but more importantly it is good land management.
