I harvested the ripe cherries today and will freeze them in batches until I have enough to make a batch of “tomato” sauce. Did you know that brazilian cherries make a very good substitute for tomatoes?
This is Eugenia uniflora,also known as Brazilian cherry, Barbados cherry, pitanga, Suriname cherry etc.
Very high in vitamin C which makes it quiet acidic (hence why you can substitute it for tomato in sauce)
We also have a really good harvest of Brazilian Cherries this year, but for some reason they don’t make it into a tomato sauce….. They are so delicious, they get eaten beforehand!
