I harvested my kifler potatoes yesterday. I bought organic potatoes from Farmer and Sun and they were sprouting so I planted out about 2kgs. I haven’t weighed these and I have also already harvested a couple of kgs of them. I’m guessing somewhere between 8 and 10 kgs from 2kgs so I’m pretty happy with that. Alot cheaper to buy organic potatoes than seed potatoes too. Does anyone grow and keep their own potatoes for planting? Do you buy seed potatoes? or do you just plant sprouting shop bought potatoes – organic or not?

I’ve been doing the same – buying potatoes and planting them, rather than buying seed potatoes. It has also meant I’ve planted some interesting varieties as I’ve discovered them in various stores – including Royal blue and Saphire. So far there have been no problems.
My harvests thus far have not been impressive – I’ve got back less than 4 times the quantity. (I didn’t think to weigh before planting). I believe that my occasional watering is mostly responsible, and I’d not fertilized them at all.
The upcoming harvests should be better. I’ve been watering more regularly so I hope to get a better harvest. I’ll keep you up to date.

Unfortunately, I haven’t weighed planted ones as compared to harvested ones. We’ve been harvesting and eating for a couple of months now and we’ve just put 50-60kgs in storage so I’m really happy with our results this year. Watering has certainly made a big difference for me this year, and the other thing was mulch! everytime I had a wwoofer and needed a job for them, I’d get them to do another layer of hay. Had no sun burn and they were easy to dig.
