Rainforest Native Flower Garden Walk

Join us on Sunday 6th October for a morning’s Walk and Talk with Aboriginal Elder Eugene Bargo on his bush property at Black Snake near Kilkivan.

Eugene is a Goreng-Kabi man who has been revegetating this site, previously cow paddocks, over the past 40+years using flowering plants from across Australia, and hybrid/cross varieties which he and his son have propagated, developed and cloned.  What he is growing he describes as a “Rainforest Native Flower Garden”, which he uses to stock his Native Flower Bunches business that he runs at many markets in the Gympie and South Burnett regions. He also has a small plant nursery and deals in plants of benefit to Koalas and other native wildlife.

Eugene is an interesting man and natural raconteur, with many tales and stories of cultural and historical significance, both of this local area and across Australia, where he has travelled extensively for over 60years and continues to do so.  He has worked with and hosted many prominent people and groups over the years and still does.  For further information, Google Eugene Bargo.

This promises to be an interesting and colourful experience.

Please bring stout footwear, and (folding) chairs, as well as a something to share for morning tea. And a water bottle.

There will be an initial meet up for the excursion at 8.00am at Chatsworth Hall, followed by a rendezvous-vous at the Lion’s Park at Kilkivan at 8.45am, where it is suggested you use the public amenities, as they are extremely limited up at Black Snake.

Tickets and pre-arranged booking are needed by Friday 4th so we have a good idea of number of people coming.
